Ukraine disputes Russian accusations that they have taken control Soledar.
After months of defeats on the battlefield, Russia claimed success on Friday, claiming to have taken control of the war-torn city of Soledar in east Ukraine. Ukraine, however, denied there had been a takeover.

In the conflict over the salt mining outpost, both sides have accepted crushing defeats, with Ukraine vowing to retain its ground and Moscow keen to sell any victory back home after years of humiliation.

The liberation of Soledar was “finished” the day before, according to the Russian defence ministry, as well as the win would allow for more “successful offensive operations” in the Donetsk province.
